We Are Makers — Directory Cookie Policy
UK and EEA visitors • Draft v1 • 6 September 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how We Are Makers Global Ltd uses cookies and similar technologies on the We Are Makers Directory at wearemakers.directory (the Directory). It should be read together with our Privacy Notice.
1. Who we are
We Are Makers Global Ltd (WAM, we, us or our) is a company incorporated in Scotland under company number SC514137. Our registered office is 18 Caledonia Place, Aviemore, PH22 1NW, United Kingdom.
For questions about this policy or our use of personal data, contact us at jack@wearemakers.info or at the postal address above.
2. What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small text files placed on, or read from, your device when you use a website. We may also use similar technologies, including local storage, pixels, tags, scripts and device identifiers. In this policy, cookies means cookies and these similar technologies unless stated otherwise.
Some cookies are set directly by WAM (first-party cookies). Others are set by external providers whose services appear on the Directory (third-party cookies). Session cookies normally expire when you close your browser; persistent cookies remain for a stated period or until deleted.
3. The rules that apply
Our use of cookies is governed by applicable data-protection and electronic-communications law, including the UK General Data Protection Regulation, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003. Where the EU GDPR and the ePrivacy rules of an EEA country apply, we will also comply with those requirements.
We may use a cookie without consent only where a legal exemption applies, such as where it is strictly necessary to provide a service you requested. Unless an exemption applies, we ask for consent before storing or accessing information on your device. Where a cookie involves personal data, our Privacy Notice explains the relevant processing in more detail.
4. How we use cookies
4.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the Directory to function securely or to provide a feature you request. They may support security, fraud prevention, network management, accessibility, consent-preference storage, account sign-in, load balancing or payment and form functions. They cannot be switched off through our consent tool where the applicable legal exemption applies, although you may be able to block them in your browser. Blocking them may prevent parts of the Directory from working.
4.2 Functional cookies
These remember choices or provide enhanced features that are not strictly necessary, such as language, region, display or embedded-content preferences. We use them only after consent where required.
4.3 Analytics cookies
These help us understand how people find and use the Directory, measure performance and improve its design and content. Unless a specific legal exemption applies to a narrowly configured statistical technology, we use analytics cookies only after consent.
4.4 Advertising and social-media cookies
These may be used to measure campaigns, limit or personalise advertising, build audiences, or understand activity across websites and services. Social-media providers may also set cookies when their content or sharing tools are used. We use these technologies only after consent where required.
5. Cookies used on the Directory
The final policy must identify each cookie or technology actually used. Complete the schedule below after scanning the production Directory and checking all third-party services.

6. Consent and your choices
When you first visit, our consent tool gives you a genuine choice about non-essential cookies. Non-essential cookies will remain disabled unless and until you consent to the relevant category. You may accept all, reject all, or choose categories using the settings presented. Not consenting will not prevent access to the core Directory, although an optional feature may be unavailable where it depends on the relevant technology.
You may change or withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal, by selecting the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of any page. The consent tool may store a strictly necessary record of your preference.
You can also control or delete cookies through your browser or device settings. Browser controls may not cover every similar technology, and deleting the consent-preference cookie may cause the banner to appear again.
7. Third-party services and international transfers
Some cookies are provided by third parties. Those providers may receive information such as an online identifier, IP address, device and browser information, pages viewed, referring source and interaction data. They may act as our processor, an independent controller or, in limited circumstances, a joint controller. The completed cookie schedule and Privacy Notice will identify the relevant providers and purposes.
A provider may process information outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area. Where required, we use an approved transfer mechanism and appropriate safeguards. Further information, including how to obtain details of relevant safeguards, is set out in our Privacy Notice or is available by contacting us.
Links to other websites do not cause WAM to control the cookies used on those sites. If you follow a maker's or another third party's link, their own privacy and cookie information will apply.
8. Retention
A cookie's lifetime is shown in the completed cookie schedule. Personal data obtained through cookies is retained only for as long as necessary for the stated purpose, subject to legal, security and record-keeping requirements. Different retention periods may apply to data later stored in our systems; these are explained in our Privacy Notice.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our technologies, providers, purposes or legal obligations change. We will publish the updated version here and change the 'last updated' date. Where a change introduces a new non-essential purpose or otherwise requires fresh consent, we will ask you again before using the relevant technology.
10. Complaints and supervisory authorities
Please contact us first if you have a concern. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. If the EU GDPR applies to you, you may also have the right to complain to the data-protection authority in the EEA country where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred.
